MUSIC AND WORSHIP
Celebrating 400 years of Baptist Heritage

This year 2009 is the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Baptist tradition. To help celebrate this big year, the Baptist History and Heritage Society has created a new 24 article series, HISTORY SPEAKS. Readers of these articles are urged to print copies for themselves and even to duplicate copies for distribution and study. Please include the following permission statement, if you do so. "Used by permission of the Baptist History and Heritage Society and its website: (www.baptisthistory.org), Atlanta, Ga. Because the articles are produced by free-thinking Baptists, the BH&HS staff and board may or may not agree with the content of each article." If you should desire to go online and receive these articles for your own, the website given above is the source.

History Speaks to Hard Questions Baptists Ask

"Baptists and Worship: How can we Improve this Experience?" Emmanuel A. McCall
"Baptists and Local Church Education: Is Sunday School Ministry Still Relevant?" Dennis Foust

TWO EMBRYONIC IN-HOUSE PROJECTS

Church Directory on the Drawing Board
Lou Herouart, a.k.a. "The Paparazzo," will begin taking pictures following worship on October 4 for a new pictorial directory. There is a signup sheet for future Sundays. This new directory, with pictures, current addresses and phone numbers, should assist with putting a name with a face. In the meantime, new members pictures are posted on the large bulletin board adjacent to the kitchen.

Additional Recipes Needed for the Proposed Church Cookbook

The plan: to collect recipes over the summer and early fall of 2009. Last winter Donna Walker volunteered to type our collection while at home in New Jersey. If you have not submitted a recipe or two, please do so this month so that we will have each family represented in the cookbook. Recipes in any category are welcomed.
MISSIONS
Goal Set for Christmas Shoebox Ministry
Olivia McDougald is chairing the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox gift effort this year and is challenging the congregation to fill 50 boxes. Begin choosing items now (small gifts, school supplies or toiletries) to fill a plastic box which will be provided for your gift. You may pack a gift box for either a boy or girl within these age groups: 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. A more complete list of suggested items is posted on the bulletin board. Gift boxes may be decorated if you desire, but is not necessary. Ingathering of gifts will be November 9-16.
